Relax & Unwind
Deep breath in, slow breath out. This is where relaxation begins...with your breath. Are you in desperate need for some peace and release of tension? Then start here, with simply drawing attention to your breath and following its rhythm for a little while. Everything is going to be just fine. The next step is kindness. Sometimes, in order to relax, you just need to be sweet to yourself - to treat yourself - to say “you’ve been doing such a good job, you’ve been hustling, you’ve been doing all the things! It’s time to take a load off.” Breathing deeply and being kind: these are two essential elements of calm energy. Here are some other things we keep on hand to invite in the calm:
Energize & Move
Here’s the funny thing: we always think we’d move more if we had more energy. But it’s actually moving more that brings us more energy in the first place. Moving, stretching, sweating, waking up your lungs...this is the strong stuff, folks! This is the stuff that increases your feelings of positivity, builds deep strength, and increases your energy levels on the daily. And don’t you think for a moment that your beautiful body doesn’t love to move! It loves to release tension and angst through a good sweat. It loves to wake up deep muscles and feel your heart pounding with aliveness. It loves that rush of feel-good hormones surging throughout your veins after a good workout. But remember, friend, even in your exercise, to be kind. We’ve been told we need to “whip” our bodies into shape and “shred” our fat. But there is no kindness behind words like “whip” and “shred!” Let’s walk away from that. Let’s instead be kind to our bodies and remember that they are on our side. We are giving our bodies a gift when we let them move and sweat like they were born to. Exercise isn’t the only thing that gives us energy, it’s just one of the best. Here are some of our other energizing faves:
Heal & Nourish
You probably drink lots of smoothies and put homemade superfood green dressing on everything, don’t you you magical self-care goddess? Well, whether or not that’s the case, most of us need a little help getting all the vitamins and minerals our bodies need throughout the week. A quality multi-vitamin can go a long way to sustain you and bring your body balance, but there are lots of other exciting nutritional supplements out there, too. Good nutrition is the foundation of good health. Here are some of our favorite body-healing nutritional supplements:
Eat Well
What we put in our bodies creates the cells in our skin and our bones, it fuels our every heartbeat, it even impacts our feelings and emotions. That’s why eating well is some of the most powerful medicine we can give ourselves. But we are not fans of stress, guilt, and shame in the kitchen; if we simply trade out fast food for food stress, what good is that? Our food philosophy is this: if you want to begin eating healthier, don’t start by asking “what can I cut out” or “what should I deprive myself of.” Instead, start by asking “what nutrition-dense, healing foods can I begin to give myself to start building more health and wellbeing?” If you want to start eating healthier, just try adding in some new foods to your day that are whole, colorful, unprocessed, and nutrition-full. Here are a few ideas to get started:
Beautify
There are so many wonderful products out there nowadays that are kind to your skin and your hair. And investing in nourishing beauty products doesn’t just have a skin-deep effect… there’s actually something kind of amazing about treating yourself to high quality beauty products. When you treat your body like it is worthy of the utmost care, it signals your emotions to actually start feeling like your body is worthy. And when you treat your body like it is a beautiful thing to be well taken care of, it starts getting a whole lot easier to believe that, too.
Happy Space
Surround yourself with beauty, inspiration, and positivity, whenever possible. Self-care is sometimes about learning about new ways to nourish yourself with food and sometimes about filling your home with things that uplift your spirits. Here are some things that inspire us to grow in self-care and positivity:
